The Senior Citizen’s Day was celebrated at St Lawrence Church , Bondel on Sunday, April 3 2022 with unity and fervour under the leadership of parish SVP Bondel Unit.. The celebrations began with confessions’ in the church from 10.30 am. Rev Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza Parish Priest was the main celebrant , Rev Fr Denis D’Souza, Rev Fr Peter Gonsalves & Rev Fr Rupesh Tauro concelebrated thee massRev Fr Peter Gonsalves presided over the Eucharistic celebration and delivered the homily. Fr Peter cited Your respect for the elderly is a reflection of your reverence for God. Love, serve and respect them as if you were doing the same for Christ.You respect them, even when they are not respectable. Seize this time. Don’t let it slip by in the abyss of busyness. This is an opportunity for your kids to experience how you would like for them to treat you one day.Soon after the Mass, a felicitation programme was held , Mr Nerris D’Souza President, SVP welcomed the dignitaries. . St Vincent Paul Society (SVP) members honoured former Parish Priest of Bondel Rev Fr Denis D’Souza who completed 60 years in Priesthood with a shawl and flower bouquets. Remembering his tenure in Bondel, Fr Denis said, “I served in Bondel for a period of 10 years and 10 days. Still I remember the olden days of each family. Due to old age, I may forget names of many parishioners but I can recognize them by face. Many of them have left us today. It is the right time to remember them. I thank the Bondel parishioners for inviting me on this auspicious day.”Speaking on the occasion, Parish Priest Fr Andrew said, “I congratulate SVP for organising this meaningful and blessed day. The senior citizens and children are the main source of happiness in every family. They are pure in heart and clean in minds. At the same time we can count the blessings on our families. We are lucky to have Fr Denis D’Souza, the ‘sculptor’ of Bondel parish. He served in seven parishes and gained a huge popularity for his service. He is an inspiration to us all. I applaud SVP members for honouring such a great personality.”Rev Fr Rupesh Tauro, Assistant Parish Priest, Rev Fr Peter Gonsalves, Principal-St Lawrence English Medium School , Mr Reginald D’Souza, Vice President-Parish Pastoral Council were present. Rev Fr Rupesh Tauro said grace before the meal.Mr Stany Alvares impeccably compered the programme. Mr Naveen Correa delivered the vote of thanks.
