Sunday, September 14 – The Holy Cross Ward celebrated the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross with deep faith and vibrant fellowship.

The day began with a Thanksgiving Mass at 7:00 a.m., with the liturgy conducted by the ward members. After the Mass, the ward members gathered near the Calvary Cross, where Rev.Fr Peter Gonsalves, the Ward In-charge, led the prayers and rosary. The beautifully decorated Cross, adorned with fresh flowers by the ward members, became a center of devotion and gratitude.

The evening celebrations commenced at 5:00 p.m. with a prayer song, followed by a welcome dance by the children. The programme was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by the dignitaries on the dais and a floral welcome extended to them. Distinguished guests present on the dais included: Rev.Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza, Parish Priest,Rev. Fr Lawrence Cutinha, Assistant Parish Priest, Mr John D’Silva, Vice President, Parish Pastoral Council,Sr Lilita, Superior, Nazareth Nivas,Mrs Anitha D’Souza, Ward Gurkarn

The welcome address was delivered by Mr Christopher Machado, Ward Representative, and the Annual Report was presented by Sheryl Machado, Ward Secretary.

In their messages, Rev. Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza spoke on the significance of the Holy Cross, appreciating the active participation of the ward members. He urged everyone to draw strength from the Cross in times of trials and to remain steadfast in faith. He further encouraged the ward to continue their good works and be shining examples of Christian love and service in the parish community.

Rev. Fr Lawrence Cutinha too congratulated the ward and highlighted the spiritual importance of the feast. He encouraged the members to carry the message of the Cross into their daily lives through acts of love and service. He also appreciated the unity and active involvement of the ward, which reflects the true spirit of Christian fellowship.

In his address, Mr John D’Silva, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council, shared an inspiring message on the significance of the Holy Cross and highlighted the spirit of unity within the ward, encouraging everyone to continue nurturing this bond of faith and togetherness..

The evening was filled with joyful activities, including games for children with prizes distributed by the Vice President. A colorful cultural programme followed, featuring songs and dances performed by both the children and ward members.

The Novena of Mother Mary was led by Sr Christella, during which the ward members offered flowers to Mama Mary. After the novena, the new corn (Novem) was reverently distributed to all ward members as a sign of gratitude for the harvest. Snacks and refreshments were then served, bringing everyone together in a spirit of fellowship.

Vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs Anitha D’Souza, Ward Gurkarn. The entire programme was beautifully compered by Mrs Rose Mary Rodrigues.

The celebrations concluded with a lively baila dance, where ward members joyfully joined in the festive spirit.

The Holy Cross Ward Feast was truly a joyful celebration of faith, unity, and togetherness, strengthening the bonds of the community.
