A special training program for the Altar Servers of Bondel Church was held at St Lawrence Church and Shrine on 26th July 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.
The session began with a prayer, invoking God’s blessings. Rev.Fr Lawrence Cutinha gathered all the altar servers and taught them important liturgical aspects, especially regarding the offertory. A practical session was conducted by Fr Lawrence, highlighting what an altar server should learn and practice.
Mrs Sophia D’Souza led a short yet impactful session on the importance of prayer life. She began by explaining who God is—a loving, caring Father who desires a deep relationship with each of us. She spoke about the true meaning of prayer, highlighting it as a heartfelt conversation with God, not just a routine. Emphasizing that prayer strengthens our faith, she encouraged the children to spend time daily in prayer, both personally and with their families. Mrs D’Souza also stressed that altar service is not just a responsibility but a spiritual offering. She urged the children to serve with devotion, discipline, and reverence. Her words inspired the young servers to grow in holiness and strengthen their bond with God. The session was both enlightening and spiritually enriching for all present.
In the second session, Rev. Fr Lawrence Cutinha, the Assistant Priest and Director of the Altar Servers, explained the importance and sacredness of serving at the altar. He conducted both theoretical and practical sessions to help the children better understand their roles and responsibilities during the liturgy.
The vote of thanks was delivered by the animator, Mrs Meena Barboza. All the children participated actively and devoutly in the training, displaying great enthusiasm and commitment.
The training programme concluded with a thanksgiving hymn, and the children were given juice as a refreshment.
