As part of the Palm Sunday observance, St Lawrence Church & Shrine, Bondel, conducted the Way of the Cross on April 13, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., offering a solemn reflection on the Passion of Christ
The ceremony began at 5:00 p.m. with an opening prayer. The Stations of the Cross started at the church and continued to the school compound. Each station was prayerfully narrated by the Ward Members, followed by short reflections and hymns that helped everyone to pray deeply. The Way of the Cross is a special devotion that helps the faithful spiritually walk with Jesus on His journey to Calvary. By stopping at each station, praying, and thinking about what Jesus went through, people are reminded of His great love and sacrifice. This tradition is one of the most meaningful ways Catholics remember and honor the suffering and death of Christ.Rev. Fr William D’Souza Asst PP and Rev. Fr Peter Gonsalves Principal St Lawrence Eng. Med. School were present among the faithful during the Way of the Cross, walking together in prayer and reflection.
The Way of the Cross came to a prayerful conclusion at around 6:00 p.m., leaving the faithful spiritually enriched and deeply moved by the reflection on Christ’s Passion.
Later, a prayer service with adoration was led by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza. He reminded everyone that Christian life is a life of the Cross. Our faith teaches us that God is truly present in the Eucharist—Jesus is among us in the form of His Body. As we begin Holy Week, we are called to spend time with Jesus and reflect on His Passion. Rev. Fr Andrew shared how Pilate wanted to set Jesus free and crucify Barabbas, but the people chose to crucify Jesus instead. Two robbers were crucified with Him—one asked Jesus to remember him in heaven, and the other turned away.
We are reminded to choose what is good and holy. Let us choose the path that leads to eternal life—choose the Cross, follow Jesus.
The adoration was prayerfully led by Rev. Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza. Special prayers were offered for children, young couples, and the sick, invoking God’s grace, strength, and healing upon them.
Rev. Fr. Andrew expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Liturgy Committee, PPC members, ward Gurkars, choir members, and all parishioners for their active participation and for making the Way of the Cross a truly meaningful and spiritually enriching experience.
