On 13th April 2025, the Parishioners of St Lawrence Church & Shrine, Bondel gathered with deep devotion for the Palm Sunday Eucharistic Celebration. The service began at 7:30 a.m. near the Crucifix, led by the Main Celebrant, Rev.Fr Peter Gonsalves-Principal of St Lawrence English Medium School.
Rev.Fr Peter reflected on Jesus—the Prince of Peace—who humbly entered Jerusalem riding a donkey, a sign of peace and humility. He reminded the faithful that the Cross, once a symbol of suffering, now stands as a sign of love, forgiveness, and reconciliation between heaven and earth. The palms were then blessed and distributed, followed by a joyful procession to the church. Holding palms in their hands, parishioners walked together to commemorate Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem—a powerful reminder that Christ is our King..’
After the procession, a solemn Mass was celebrated in remembrance of the Passion of Christ. The main celebrant was Rev. Fr Peter Gonsalves, joined by Rev. Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza, Parish Priest, and Rev. Fr William D’Souza, Assistant Parish Priest, as concelebrants. During the Gospel, the Passion of Christ was prayerfully proclaimed by all three priests, drawing the faithful into the depth of Christ’s sacrifice and love.
In his homily, Rev. Fr Peter Gonsalves reflected on the contrast between the crowd’s praise and their later betrayal. He said the same people who once adored Jesus turned against Him, choosing to save a robber instead. The Jews desired a king of their own making and rejected Jesus, the true Redeemer. On Palm Sunday, Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey—symbolizing peace and humility. Though innocent and full of love, He was condemned out of fear and thirst for power. Yet, Jesus willingly embraced the Cross, not out of defeat, but to fulfill the will of the Father and bring salvation to all.
A large number of faithful gathered for the Palm Sunday celebration with deep devotion and reverence. The liturgy was prayerfully participated in by the parishioners, and the church choir beautifully led the congregation in hymns that lifted hearts in worship. At the end of the Mass, Parish Priest Rev. Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza thanked everyone for their active participation and extended his heartfelt wishes for a grace-filled and holy week ahead.
The parishioners walked back home with palms in their hands and even more love for Jesus in their hearts.
