The Catholic Sabha, Mangalore Pradesh (R), Bondel Unit organized an Inter-Parish Volleyball Tournament on 18th May at 9:00 a.m. at the St Lawrence School Ground, Bondel. The event was held in support of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium School Education.
The program commenced with an opening prayer led by Rev. Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza, Parish Priest and Spiritual Director of the Catholic Sabha. The tournament was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Mr. Pradeep D’Souza, Deputy Director, Youth Empowerment & Sports, Dakshina Kannada and Mangaluru.
Mr Sujay D’Silva, President of the Bondel Unit, warmly welcomed the distinguished guests on the dais by presenting them with mementos as a token of appreciation. He also extended a warm welcome to all the people gathered for the event.
In his address, Mr Pradeep D’Souza encouraged the youth to actively consider careers in government service, emphasizing the wide range of opportunities available across various sectors. He highlighted that government jobs offer both stability and financial security. Beyond that, they provide a meaningful platform to serve the community and the nation. He urged young people to stay informed, prepare with dedication, and take advantage of the various government schemes, training programs, and recruitment initiatives. By embracing these opportunities, he said, they can build a bright, secure, and purposeful future while contributing to the nation’s development.
Rev. Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza, in his message, commended the Catholic Sabha’s dedicated initiatives towards community welfare and education. He highlighted that last year, the Sabha generously donated desks to the St. Lawrence Kannada Medium School. This year, they plan to provide school uniforms for the children, further demonstrating their commitment to supporting the students’ needs. He appreciated their consistent and selfless service and acknowledged the positive impact they have had on the parish community. Concluding his message, he wished the Sabha continued success and blessings in all their future endeavors.

A total of 16 parishes from the Mangalore and Udupi Dioceses participated in the tournament. The first prize of ₹25,000 along with a trophy was awarded to Pangla Parish from the Udupi Diocese. The second prize of ₹15,000 and a trophy went to Maniyampare Parish from the Mangalore Diocese. Additionally, trophies were presented for the Best All-Rounder, Best Smasher, and Best Setter awards. The prizes were distributed by Rev. Fr Peter Gonsalves.
The event was compered by Mr Wilfred Alvares, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Mrs Olivia D’Sa. Special gratitude was extended to Rev. Fr Peter Gonsalves for generously providing the school ground and for his unwavering support in hosting the tournament. Special appreciation was also extended to Mr Henry Menezes and Mrs Lorina for their dedicated efforts towards the development of the volleyball court. Special thanks were extended to Mr Rudy Pinto for his leadership in maintaining cleanliness and upkeep of the ground, as well as to Mr Manesh Mascarenhas, Mr Vinod Pinto,Jason Fernandes & Alrick D’Silva and all the Catholic Sabha members for their valuable contributions.

At the end of the tournament, Rev. Fr William D’Souza, outgoing Assistant Priest, was felicitated by the Catholic Sabha with a garland, shawl, and memento in appreciation of his dedicated one-year service to the parish. The tournament concluded with a heartfelt thanksgiving hymn.
