Bondel, June 25, 2026: Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of the Diocese of Mangalore, visited St Lawrence Shrine, Bondel, at 6:15 p.m. and held a fruitful meeting with the Shrine Committee members in the Association Room.

The gathering commenced with a prayer led by the Bishop. Rev. Fr Basil Vas, Parish Priest and Rector of St Lawrence Shrine, warmly welcomed the Bishop and all those present. As a gesture of welcome and appreciation, PPC Vice President Mr John D’Silva and Secretary Mr Alwyn Saldanha presented the Bishop with a sapling, symbolizing the importance of protecting nature and nurturing life.
Following the welcome, all the Shrine Committee members introduced themselves to the Bishop and briefly shared their respective roles and responsibilities within the committee

During the meeting, Shrine Convener Mr Jason Fernandes presented a detailed report on the preparations for the forthcoming Annual Feast of St Lawrence, scheduled for August 10. He briefed the Bishop on the various committees, responsibilities, programmes, and arrangements being undertaken to ensure the successful celebration of the feast.The liturgical preparations and choir arrangements were presented by Assistant Priest Rev. Fr Lawrence Cutinha.

In his address, Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha encouraged the committee members to deepen their devotion to St. Lawrence through prayer, Eucharistic Adoration, and active participation in the spiritual life of the Shrine. He emphasized the centrality of the Holy Eucharist and urged the faithful to cultivate a prayerful spirit by spending time before the Blessed Sacrament.

Inspired by the example of St. Lawrence, the Bishop also called for greater commitment to charitable and social outreach, especially towards the poor, the sick, and the needy. Reminding everyone that Christ is present in those who suffer, he urged the members to serve with love, compassion, and generosity, becoming true witnesses of God’s mercy in the parish and society.

Among those present were Rev. Fr Basil Vas, Rev. Fr Lawrence Cutinha, Rev. Fr Peter Gonsalves, Principal of St. Lawrence English Medium School, and members of the Shrine Committee.

The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr John D’Silva. The Bishop then led the Angelus and imparted his blessing to all gathered. He also conveyed his best wishes and prayers for the successful celebration of the Annual Feast of St. Lawrence.

The gathering ended on a positive and prayerful note, inspiring all present to continue their mission with renewed zeal and commitment.
